From 1 July 2026, we'll check in about your concession eligibility - not just when you join or switch, but whenever it makes sense to - and take reasonable steps to make sure any concession you may be eligible for is applied.
If you stop being eligible for a concession you've been receiving, we'll let you know.
The Victorian Government offers a range of concessions to help with energy bills. Holders of a Pensioner Concession Card, Health Care Card of DVA Gold Card may be eligible. To apply for an energy concession (other than the Life Support and Medical Cooling Concessions), or to update your concession details, please print, complete, and return the Sumo Concession Form.

Annual Electricity Concession
The Annual Electricity Concession gives eligible concession cardholders a 17.5 per cent discount on household electricity costs all year round. The discount is applied to your electricity charges after any retailer discounts and solar credits, up to an annual limit; above that limit, the Excess Electricity Concession applies (see below).

Winter Gas Concession
The Winter Gas Concession gives eligible concession cardholders a 17.5 per cent discount on mains gas costs from 1 May to 31 October each year. As with electricity, it applies up to a seasonal limit, above which the Excess Gas Concession applies.

Life Support Concession
The Life Support Concession helps with the electricity cost of running an approved life support machine at home. In Victoria the concession is the cost of 1,880 kWh of electricity per year (470 kWh per quarter), calculated at your retailer's general domestic tariff.
It applies to three types of equipment:
- intermittent peritoneal dialysis,
- haemodialysis,
- and oxygen concentrators.
To apply, download, complete and return the Victorian Life Support Concession and Machine Notification Form, which must be completed and signed by your doctor, nurse or hospital social worker confirming your use of a life support machine.

Medical Cooling Concession
The Medical Cooling Concession provides a 17.5 per cent discount on summer electricity costs for cardholders where a member of the household has a medical condition that affects the body’s ability to regulate temperature. It is available from 1 November to 30 April each year and is given in addition to the Annual Electricity Concession. To apply, download, complete and return the Medical Cooling Concession Application Form, which must be completed and signed by your doctor confirming your medical condition.

Excess Electricity Concession
The Excess Electricity Concession continues a 17.5 per cent discount on electricity charges above the Annual Electricity Concession's yearly limit. Only a small number of households use enough electricity to reach the limit; where they do, the concession is applied automatically and your retailer will send any form required.

Excess Gas Concession
The Excess Electricity Concession continues a 17.5 per cent discount on mains gas charges above the Winter Gas Concession's seasonal limit. Where a household reaches the limit, the concession is applied automatically.

Utility Relief Grant Scheme
The Utility Relief Grant Scheme (URGS) helps low-income households that are unable to pay a current energy bill because of an unexpected hardship or short-term financial crisis in the last 12 months - for example, a sudden drop in income, high unexpected costs, or the impact of family violence. A grant is available once every two years per energy type and is capped.
