Could you be missing out on an energy concession?
Many people who are eligible for a concession rebate on their energy bills never claim it.
From 1 July 2026, when you join or change your plan, we'll tell you about the concessions, rebates, and relief available where you live and ask whether you might be eligible - so support is easier to find. If you stop being eligible for a concession you've been receiving, we'll let you know.

The South Australian Government offers concessions to help with the cost of your energy bills. In South Australia you apply directly to the relevant department (not your retailer), and the concession is then applied to your account. An overview of the available concessions is below.

Energy Bill Concession
The Energy Bill Concession helps South Australians on a low or fixed income with energy costs for their principal place of residence, where they meet the eligibility criteria. You can apply online, or download an application form, on the SA Government website. You can also call the ConcessionsSA Hotline (9:00am to 5:00pm, Monday to Friday) on 1800 307 758 to request a form.

Medical Heating and Cooling Concession
The Medical Heating and Cooling Concession helps South Australians on a low or fixed income who have a clinically verified medical condition that requires the frequent use of heating or cooling at home to prevent the severe worsening of their condition. It is available in addition to the Energy Bill Concession. You apply directly to the SA Department of Human Services, and the application requires information and a signature from your medical practitioner. Home Dialysis Electricity Concession
Anyone undergoing dialysis treatment at home may be eligible, provided the concession is approved by an SA Health practitioner. Applications are made through the renal unit where you receive treatment.

Emergency Electricity Payment Scheme (EEPS)
The Emergency Electricity Payment Scheme helps eligible low-income households that have had, or are at risk of having, their electricity disconnected. An EEPS payment is available once every two years, and applications must be completed with the assistance of a financial counsellor. Find a financial counsellor on the SA Government website or call the National Debt Helpline on 1800 007 007.

Cost of Living Concessions
The Cost-of-Living Concession is a separate yearly payment from the SA Department of Human Services that helps low-income households with general living expenses, including energy. Applications must be submitted by 31 December to receive the concession for that financial year.
