New energy plan gives households 3 hours of free power every day

 

The Australian Government has introduced the Solar Sharer Offer. It is a regulated energy plan that provides eligible households with 3 hours of free power in the middle of every day, even if they don't have solar.

The Solar Sharer Offer is available to households that:

  • - Live in New South Wales, South Australia or South East Queensland
  • - Have a smart meter installed at their home
  • - Are renters of homeowners
  • - Do or don't have rooftop solar

 

Switch. Shift. Save.

For househoulds to make bill savings under the offer, there are 3 steps:

Switch to the Solar Sharer Offer. Households need to contact their energy retailer to opt in to the offer and check if it's the right plan for them.

Shift energy use to the 3-hour free-power window. It is from 11am to 2pm in New South Wales and South East Queensland, and from 12pm to 3pm in South Australia.

Save on energy bills. The more energy use households shift the more they can potentially save. Using big energy use appliances can help to make bigger savings. Things like washing machines, dryers, dishwashers, heating, and cooling systems.

 

Benefits of the offer

The Solar Sharer Offer is part of the government's reforms to the Default Market Offer. It aims to:

  • - Help households lower their energy bills
  • - Share the benefits of cheap renewable power by using abundant solar power that's generated during the day
  • - Shift demand away from evening peaks to improve grid stability and lower system and network costs.
